Niagara Falls Wedding Venues
Honeymooning/Getting Married in Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls is known to some as the Honeymoon Capital of the world, and rightly so! Couples have been honeymooning in Niagara Falls for hundreds of years! It is said that Napoleon Bonaparte’s brother, Jerome Bonaparte, took his honeymoon in Niagara Falls, helping to contribute to the popularity of the falls as a honeymoon destination.
Although touristy in many ways, there are plenty of areas in Niagara Falls parks and scenic overlooks where couples can be alone.
Living Water Wayside Chapel
Looking for somewhere quaint to get married? This tiny chapel found along the Niagara Parkway, has only two pews, so it is perfect for small wedding parties, as it can only hold up to 12 people, and that includes the minister. This chapel wasn’t originally intended for weddings, but as a stop along the parkway, a place where people could rest and say a quick prayer. Over the years, it has evolved into what may be one of the world’s smallest wedding chapels. This chapel is located right on the parkway, halfway between the cities of Niagara Falls and Niagara on the Lake.
Another interesting draw for couples taking their honeymoon in Niagara Falls is that they can receive an official honeymoon certificate which is signed by the mayor of the city. Also, brides have the chance to get free passes to many area attractions. Call the visitor bureau for more information at 1-800-563-2557
Marriage Licenses
Obtaining a marriage license in Ontario requires the following:
$100
-both applicants must be over 18 years of age
-passport
-OR two forms of government photo id, plus a birth certificate
Marriage licenses are valid for three months from the date they are issued. If you have all the proper documentation, marriage licenses can be obtained in about 30 minutes. But it is probably best to plan ahead, to avoid any disappointment if you are unable to get one that quickly. It should also be noted that there are no residency or citizenship requirements to get married in Ontario.
All of the information on marriage licenses is the same for straight or gay marriage.
