Maid of the Mist Boat Tour

Going on the Maid of the Mist is an overwhelming experience right from the beginning. You are not able to purchase advance tickets for this attraction, so it is almost guaranteed that you will be waiting in a line of some sort. Whether it is summer, spring or fall will determine the length of that line. The price to get onto the Maid of the Mist for an adult is $14.50, and the price for a child is 6-12 is $8.90, and if the child is under the age of five, there is no charge.

Lines in the summertime can get quite long, but they aren’t as bad as other attractions because for the majority of the wait you are outside standing on a long, winding staircase. You are able to see the Niagara River and the Falls from the line, and there is always tons of activity happening on dry land as well. The wait in the line goes by fairly quickly. At one point in the line, a photographer is there is take a picture of your group in front of the Maid of the Mist backdrop. These photos are available at the end of the ride at a special booth. When you get to the end of the staircase, you are ushered inside a building where you will be outfitted with raincoats, as you will likely get quite wet on the boat (unless you chose to sit inside-but what is the fun in that?) After you receive your raincoat, there is another wait on the dock, and finally you are ready to get on the boat.

Maid of the Mist

All the waiting is definitely worth it, because the Maid of the Mist never fails to impress. It is one of the oldest tourist attractions in North America, and has been running since 1846, and has provided millions of people with an unparalleled experience with Niagara Falls. There is no other attraction that lets you get so close to the Falls. The boat will take you so close to the Falls that you will get absolutely drenched with the mist, and you won’t be able to hear anything else above the thundering of the falling water. It really is a breathtaking experience. The Maid of the Mist is the one attraction that cannot be missed when visiting the Falls. The entire ride last about half an hour, and you have the option of either standing on the inside or the outside, or standing on the top or bottom deck.

When you go on this ride, make sure to bring a waterproof camera, because your camera is sure to get soaked. It is also a good idea to bring a hat of some sort, so you can wear it after you get off the ride. As you go through the tunnel after the ride is over, there are mirrors so you can see what you look like, but sometimes it is just easier to throw on a hat and not worry about what your hair looks like.

Getting married on the Maid of the Mist? Apparently it can be arranged, use the link near the top of the page to contact the company.

This You Tube video shows the Maid of the Mist boat tour from beginning to end. Set to music you get to go along with the passengers and experience the attraction first hand. The only thing better than this video is to experience the boat tour yourself.
